Charco de los Clicos (Lago Verde)
Charco de los Clicos, also known as Lago Verde (Green Lagoon), is one of Lanzarote's most photographed natural wonders. This half-moon shaped lagoon filled with emerald green water sits in a volcanic crater directly adjacent to the black sand beach and Atlantic Ocean.
The lagoon's striking green color comes from sulfur and microscopic algae in the water, creating an almost surreal contrast against the black volcanic sand and dark rocks. The best views are from the clifftop viewpoint above El Golfo village, offering panoramic perspectives of this unique geological formation.
The area is part of a protected nature reserve, and swimming in the lagoon is prohibited to preserve its delicate ecosystem. However, you can walk down to the black sand beach beside it and enjoy the dramatic coastal scenery. The surrounding volcanic cliffs and rock formations create an otherworldly landscape.
The nearby village of El Golfo offers several excellent seafood restaurants with views of the lagoon, making it perfect for combining natural sightseeing with authentic Canarian dining. Visit during golden hour for the most dramatic lighting and photo opportunities.
Free to visit with parking available in El Golfo village. The short walk from the village offers changing perspectives of the lagoon and coastline.
