Parque Natural de Los Volcanes
Parque Natural de Los Volcanes encompasses a vast protected area of volcanic landscape, including portions not within Timanfaya National Park. The area features numerous volcanic cones, lava flows, and unique geological formations available for hiking and exploration.
Several marked trails allow visitors to experience the volcanic landscape up close, unlike the restricted Timanfaya core. Routes range from easy walks to challenging hikes, crossing various volcanic features including aa and pahoehoe lava types, volcanic bombs, and cinder fields.
The Tremesana route is particularly popular, offering access to multiple volcanic cones and panoramic views across the volcanic fields. The stark beauty of the landscape, with its otherworldly appearance, makes hiking here a unique experience. Colors range from black and red to orange and rust.
The area provides excellent opportunities for geological education, photography, and experiencing true wilderness. The isolation and scale of the volcanic landscape create powerful impressions of nature's creative and destructive forces.
Free access with parking at trailheads. Bring plenty of water, sun protection, and proper hiking shoes. The volcanic rock is sharp and loose in places. Download trail maps in advance. Best in cooler months. Early morning or late afternoon avoids heat. No facilities on trails.
