Volcanic Vineyards
Lanzarote is home to a number of wineyards, which produce a variety of wines, particularly white wines and rosé wines. The island’s wine industry dates back to the 18th century, and it has a unique terroir due to its volcanic soil and mild climate.
Some of the well known wineries in Lanzarote are:
- Bodegas El Grifo: This winery was founded in 1775 and is the oldest in the Canary Islands. It produces a variety of wines using traditional methods, including Malvasía, a white wine that is a specialty of the island.
- Bodegas Rubicón: This winery is located in the north of the island and produces a wide range of wines, including red, white, and rosé wines. It’s considered one of the best wineries in the island and has won several awards.
- Bodegas La Geria: This winery is located in the heart of the island’s wine region, La Geria, and produces wines using traditional methods, including the malvasia grape variety.
- Bodegas Los Bermejos: This winery is located in the south of the island and produces a wide range of wines, including red, white and rosé wines, using both traditional and modern methods.
Visiting a winery is a great way to learn about the island’s wine-making tradition and to taste the wines produced on the island. Many wineries offer tours and tastings, and some even have restaurants on site where you can enjoy a meal paired with their wines.
